What first inspired your passion for styling + interior design?
ANASTASIA: I’ve always been very sensitive to my surroundings and notice how the environment affects my mood and well-being. I experienced love at first sight 15 years ago when I visited a friend’s place...I walked into a beautifully designed + styled apartment her mum created and instantly fell in love. That apartment sparked curiosity and passion, since that day I became obsessed.
What do you love most about your styling + interior design?
DEMI: I love that it allows me to be creative and produce things that are out of the ordinary. Designing and styling is a lot of hard work and the feeling of satisfaction we get when we have made something that we can be really proud of is what it’s all about.
ANASTASIA: I deeply appreciate every well-designed space and product. Although a long time ago I fell in love with Middle Eastern patterns, I still love Persian rugs.
What style trends can we expect in 2020?
ANASTASIA: 2020 brings us bold organic shapes, natural textures and neutral colour palette with beiges, browns, and warm greys dominating. DEMI: It appears that in 2020 people are designing more for comfort and less for impressions. Simple organic forms, neutral palettes and arrangements that bring a sense of calm into the home are what we are going for, with a lot more references to nature.
What’s your most favourite Interior Secrets product and why?
ANASTASIA: Hard question! I love so many products. I will mention a few! I personally love the deep blue colour and texture of Dane 3 Seater Sofa - Dusty Blue. The shape of it is just stunning. I feel comfortable just by looking at it.
I like the Julio Console Table because of its beautiful geometric detailing on the drawers. And lastly, the Donna Lounge Chair - Blood Orange, I’ve been in love with this for some time now. This piece is full of drama and evokes a strong emotional response. The shape is so sophisticated yet cutting edge contemporary.
DEMI: We have so many beautiful products that my favourite changes all the time, but a stand out would have to be the Denmark velvet range. I really love products that bring a pop of rich colours and textures – something to add character to the space in an unconventional way.
Typically, neutral palettes are used for base furniture pieces - I like to challenge this and give a space some personality with a bold, stand out piece and coordinate the rest of the styling around that. The Denmark velvet's are perfect for this.
ANASTASIA: Start with the main pieces, choose the art that you love, smaller accessories and rugs can be chosen last. A touch of greenery and quality cushions can make a lot of difference.
DEMI: My main tip would be – if you love it, you should go for it! There’s no right or wrong when it comes to design and styling, you don’t necessarily need to follow a trend – just go with what you love. If the space makes you happy, chances are it has been designed well and others will appreciate it too.
